I knew David a little as we were lucky enough to have Janet Trafford as our childminder. I needed to have a general anaesthetic in order to have a hip arthroscopy following 3 years of pain after being knocked off my bike. As we were waiting for children to tear themselves away from the fun at Janet's, we chatted and I told him I was only worried about the op because of being a parent. With a reassuring smile he told me what to expect and why the risks were low for someone like me. He didn't need to 'talk shop' but he took the time, as a loving parent to his children, to sympathise and ease my worries. So sad to hear the news about him.
